Meet Jim

Jim Pacheco was born and raised here in the heart of Merced County. Growing up on the family farm, Jim’s large, close-knit family instilled in him the values of hard work and strong faith. After graduating from Atwater High School, Jim began serving as a reserve Merced County Sheriff’s Deputy, eventually becoming a full-time Deputy Sheriff and Detective. In 1999, he was promoted to Sergeant. Jim’s community-oriented policing approach helped many in at-risk situations find a path to a better life and success. Bilingual, Jim built strong relationships with fellow Merced County Latinos, assisting victims in finding justice and reducing crime in their communities. Much of Jim’s caseload was agriculture and narcotics-related crimes, two areas that significantly impact Merced County. Today, he serves as a reserve Deputy Sheriff and manages the family farm. Jim has proudly represented the community on numerous boards, including the Le Grand Municipal Advisory Council, the Le Grand-Athlone Water District Board and the Merced County Employees’ Retirement Association. He is currently the Le Grand Lions Club President and Friends of the Fair Board Director. A football and baseball coach, Jim has also been a 4-H leader. Jim and his wife of over twenty years, Jeannette, live on the family farm in Le Grand, where they raised their four children. Today, they enjoy spending time with their four grandchildren.

Vision, Issues, & Values

I am running for the Merced County Supervisor position because I want to enhance the well-being of our community. I am enthusiastic about delivering a superior level of attentiveness, availability, and responsibility to public service. Local government exists to serve the people, and as elected officials, it is our duty to prioritize the constituents over those of special interest groups or bureaucratic customs. As a law enforcement officer, I recognize the importance of prioritizing the community and will bring that same level of commitment to this position.

As your next County Supervisor, I pledge to be an independent advocate and proactively address our community's concerns. My unwavering commitment to improving the quality of life for the constituents in District 1 will always be at the heart of my public service. It would be my privilege to earn your vote.

Investing in Public Safety

I have seen the need to invest in public safety increase exponentially while serving as a Merced County Deputy Sheriff for the last 30 years. Unfortunately, with a statewide crime epidemic, both violent and property crimes are skyrocketing. The county must invest in sufficient training, staffing, and resources for our public safety departments. This is necessary to ensure the safety of our communities and maintain a high quality of life.

Protecting our Water

As a lifelong farmer, I know the lifeblood of our multi-billion-dollar Central Valley Agriculture Industry is water. Ensuring the protection of our water rights is critical for the survival of our communities and the agriculture industry. Access to reliable and uncontaminated water should always be a source of certainty.

Stimulating Economic Development

Merced County residents want a strong and prosperous economy, good jobs, and a better life foreveryone. To make this happen, we need to help our local businesses succeed by giving them incentives and making it easier for them to do business. As your County Board of Supervisors representative, I will work with my colleagues to cut red tape and work with local education agencies to attract better-paying jobs for Merced’s working families.

Tackling our Homelessness Crisis

We must tackle Merced County’s homeless crisis with compassion and accountability. A regional initiative that will benefit our communities while providing a funding source for mental health and homeless prevention programs is essential. This approach helps those needing services, our neighborhoods and the business community. We also need to empower our non-profits that have been on the front lines of this crisis for years. It is inhumane to neglect unsheltered families living on the streets of our city. It is also wrong for their rights to supersede the rights of hardworking residents who want to provide for their families.

Providing for our Veterans

As a son of an Army Veteran, I know we must guarantee high-quality services for Merced County veterans. We can do this by backing veteran housing initiatives and job training programs to help those who have served our country and benefit our communities.

Delivering Superior Service

Serving Merced County residents as Deputy Sheriff and on several public service boards has been an honor. I will continue to deliver superior attentiveness and availability to those I represent. I will always have an open-door policy and hold office hours throughout the district. My unwavering commitment to improving the quality of life for the constituents in District 1 will always be at the heart of my service to you.
